VNA Forklift FAQs

Answers to the questions we get asked most about buying, hiring, moving and maintaining VNA trucks.

Your questions answered

What is a VNA forklift?
VNA stands for very narrow aisle. A VNA forklift, often called a VNA truck or turret truck, is built to work in aisles much narrower than a reach truck or counterbalance forklift needs. Narrower aisles mean more racking and more pallet locations in the same building. Read our narrow aisle forklift guide.
Do you sell and hire VNA trucks?
Yes. We hold used VNA trucks for sale, including man-up turret trucks and order pickers, and run a hire fleet. See VNA forklifts for sale and VNA forklift hire.
Can you deliver and install the truck?
Yes. Transport and installation are handled in house with our own hiab cranes and electric cranes, and our health and safety van and appointed person attend every VNA installation. See forklift transport and relocation.
Where are you based and which areas do you cover?
We are at Willow Farm, Everill Gate Lane, Broomhill, Barnsley, S73 0YJ, and supply businesses across the UK.
Are your used VNA trucks serviced before sale?
Our listings note when a truck is sold serviced, with a current LOLER and charger, or reconditioned. Ask about the exact preparation and any warranty for the truck you are interested in, as this varies by machine.
Can you deliver and install a truck I buy?
Yes. We transport and install with our own hiab crane lorries and electric cranes, and can set up wire or roller guidance. Some listings include transport and commissioning in the price. See transport and relocation.
What should I check before buying a used VNA forklift?
Lift height, aisle width, capacity at height, mast specification, guidance system, battery condition and truck history. Our narrow aisle guide explains each one.
How long can I hire a VNA truck for?
Our flexible contracts start from 3 months. Short-term hire can also cover a breakdown, a seasonal peak or a project. Tell us the period you need and we will advise what is available.
Is servicing included in the hire?
Yes. Full service and maintenance costs are included in our hire contracts.
Do you hire wire guided or rail guided trucks?
Both. Trucks can be supplied for wire or roller (rail) guided aisles.
Do you deliver hire trucks across the UK?
Yes. We offer UK-wide supply, and transport and installation are handled with our own hiab cranes and electric cranes.
Can I buy the truck at the end of the hire?
Several hire trucks are also listed for sale. Ask us about the options for the machine you are hiring.
What is the difference between man-up and man-down VNA trucks?
On a man-up truck the operator cab rises with the forks, so the driver works at the pallet position and can pick individual items. On a man-down truck the operator stays at ground level and handles full pallets, usually with camera or height aids. Man-up suits order picking and high-bay work; man-down suits full-pallet put-away and retrieval.
What is a turret truck?
A turret truck is a VNA truck with a head that rotates to put away and pick pallets on both sides of a narrow aisle without the truck turning. Most man-up VNA trucks are turret or combi trucks.
What is the difference between a VNA truck and a reach truck?
A reach truck needs a wider aisle because it has to turn to face the racking. A VNA truck works in much narrower, usually guided aisles and handles pallets on both sides without turning, so more of the floor can be racking.
What equipment do you use?
Our own hiab crane lorries and electric cranes. On a recent Jungheinrich VNA installation the truck was lifted into position with an Ormig pick-and-carry crane alongside a Palfinger loader crane.
Is there a health and safety presence on site?
Yes. Our health and safety van and our in-house health and safety officer and appointed person attend every VNA installation to oversee lifting operations and machinery movements.
Do you cover the whole UK?
Yes. We can arrange forklift transport throughout the UK.
